Advantages of Group Communication

The processes discussed are mainly related to  group communications. Group communication facilities face-to-face interaction within a small group of persons, in  other words a dialogue or conversation. It is personal, direct, intimate, allowing far maximum interaction and exchange in a word or gesture. Feedback is the key word here and more so it will be instantaneous in small group communication. The larger the group, the less personal and direct is the exchange. Hence, small group is always preferred for better communication. The degree of directness and intimacy, therefore, depends upon the size of the group, the place where it meets; as also the relationship of the members of the  group  to one another and to the leader. Group communication  is, therefore, a more complex process than interpersonal communication. However, in the Indian context, where the group culture is still intact, nutrition educators need to depend upon group communication methods. These methods can be practiced widely to reach more and more of the large number to be educated.
